ALMOST EVERYTHING THERE IS TO SEE, KNOW AND DO ON THE COSTA
Porto Cervo
The Village
The village of Port Cervo grew up around the Piazzetta, which was once the living, beating heart of the Costa Smeralda itself. Various little streets and lanes open off the Piazzetta which is now the main shopping hub and continues in the famous SOTTOPIAZZA overlooking the BEACH. The latter has a small jetty with a half-hourly shuttle service for PORTO CERVO MARINA.
Right in front of the Hotel Cervo is a fountain that once upon a time people used to empty boxes of washing powder just for the fun of it….Nowadays, that square is a taxi rank.
Porto Cervo’s old centre in linked to the PORTO VECCHIO by the legendary WOODEN BRIDGE, one of the most photographed places on the entire Costa. The MAISON DU PORT, the first building to be completed in Porto Cervo and also the Yacht Club’s first headquarters, is located in the Porto Vecchio. Built in the early 2000s, the PROMENADE DU PORT is accessed from the beside the Maison and is home to a whole slew of excellent stores and services. If you follow the asphalt road around the TENNIS CLUB and CONFERENCE CENTER run by the Hotel Cervo, you’ll skirt the PIAZZA DEL PRINCIPE, another recently-built residential and commercial complex. Further along the road is the SA CONCA condo building, which dates to the village’s earliest days. Its architecture, like that of the Hotel LUCI DI LA MUNTAGNA, is very much in the signature Costa style. As is the nearby STELLA MARIS church (see its page) which really is worth a visit.
