People believe Caprera to be an island but in reality it is a great freighter anchored of the coast of Sardinia where there are no cinemas, newspapers, phones, hotels or televisions, and no passengers either, just mariners who talk about the sea and the sky because the sky reveals the sea’s mood and vice versa.
This is what Carlo Goldoni wrote about Caprera for Coast 15 years ago and nothing has changed since then. Here you can visit Garibaldi’s house, stepping back 150 years in time, and the island’s cool and shady pine groves. The most famous of the island’s beautiful bays is the “shipwreck” beach near Punta Rossa in the south. Caprera is a natural oasis to be visited by car, motorbike or bike (recommended) or by sea from the coves near La Maddalena to Forte Arbuticci which houses a new and interesting interactive multimedia museum dedicated to Garibaldi.
