AUTUMN IN BARBAGIA 2026 - OROTELLI
In the heart of Sardinia, where life is still marked by ancient traditions and folk customs, lies the town of Orotelli.

The municipality is located on a plateau characterized by small granite rocks, particularly tonalites, found primarily in the Serra d'Orotelli, north of the town. The town is divided into two separate areas: the older part, with the historic center centered around the church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista and the nearby Church of San Lussorio, and, since the 1930s, the new district of Mussinzua, home to the rural Church of the Santissimo Salvatore and the Parish Church of Spirito Santo, co-patron saint of Orotelli. The church, built starting in 1970 in a modern style on the ruins of the old 14th-century Aragonese church, is dedicated to Orotelli.

Despite its granite terrain, the town has distinguished itself more for its agricultural economy than for the island's traditional pastoral activity.

In the 1960s, with the crisis in the grain sector, the farming community almost completely disappeared. Artisanal activity remains, and thanks to their art and craftsmanship, Orotelli shoemakers have become renowned throughout the province. The town has always been considered the home of the classic Barbagia boots, sos cambales, still handcrafted according to tradition, using wooden lasts, goat bone for the finishing and lining, string awls, and a leather cutter for cutting the leather.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, October 3th and Sunday, October 4th in Orotelli.
